The Reef Wars Part 3
The Queen’s Paladin, Abra Zire collected her fleet after the battle of Iris. Whilst victorious, the win was bitter, she had unknowingly assisted Skolas by defeating his contender, Parixas. Skolas was now one step closer to Kell.
The Queen still sought revenge following the attack on the battle station Amethyst, where Drevis, Wolf Baroness led her silent fang to the massacre. Drevis fooled them once at Iris and the Queen was determined to not be fooled again. Prince Uldren’s crows made progress on the Wolves transmissions and was able to decrypt and seemingly unimportant piece of information, the House of Wolves had incorrectly calculated the trajectory of the asteroid Bamberga.
Paladin Imogen Rife was given the task to chase down Drevis and use this information to her advantage. Drevis’s fleet was too slow for the Queen’s ships and Imogen Rife was soon upon her. Rife’s team expertly coordinated their attack herding the fallen like sheep, clustering them in a central area, within the trajectory of asteroid. The battle appeared even at first, but by the time Drevis realized it was too late. The asteroid Bamberga smashed through fallen’s position with a cascade of explosions, Rife’s team well clear, already predicted the asteroid’s trajectory. Amongst the wreckage and debris, Drevis thought lucky to be alive, was quickly captured with her High Servitor Kaliks-4. The Queen’s victory was recorded as the Battle of Bamberga’s Wrath. Drevis and her fellow captive servitor were to be transferred to the Prison of Elders and where Drevis may soon question her luck.
This was the first decisive victory since the Scatter, where the Queen’s secret weapon, the harbingers destroyed thousands of Fallen ships, tumbling the House of Wolves into a civil war and fight for leadership. However, Skolas was not willing to surrender the Baroness and her servitor without a fight. He sent Pirsis, a loyal captain to intercept Imogen Rife before reaching the prison. Pirsis was given command of the largest wolf fleet seen since the scatter and successful pinned Imogen Rife on the asteroid Pallas, later known as the Seige on Pallas.
A stale mate quickly occurred, the asteroid Pallas was populated with innocent civilians and the Queen could not use her Harbingers as both Paladin Rife and the civilians would be caught in the fire. Similarly, Pirsis showed caution, learned from previous experiences and hesitant to harm Drevis and her silent fang in the cross fire. The Queen sought to diffuse the siege by capturing Skolas, she sent Armada Paladins Abra Zire and Kamala Rior into the Hildian Asteroids, where Skolas was rumored to be hiding, but Skolas with the help of his tactician Beltrik, the Veiled, predicted their movements and escaped them.
The stalemate over Pallas was broken by, of all beings, a dreg. Ironically dubbed Weksis the Meek, the dreg led dozens of followers in an unsanctioned attack on Pallas. They managed to blast a hole in the Athens Hull, the ship containing the prisoners but were stopped soon after by Commander Hallam Fen. Weksis and the surviving followers were imprisoned alongside those they had come to save.
Weksis’ attack may have been unsuccessful, but it inspired another, deadlier assault. This time Pirsis, the fallen captain led another strike herself, blasting through the same hull that Weksis had weakened in his assault.
Pirsis’ strike team managed to free Kaliks-4, but Paladin Imogen Rife cut them off outside Drevis’ cell. Pirsis quickly eluded Paladin rife through the maze of corridors on the ship, refusing to leave without Drevis. The servitor, Kaliks-4 may have been freed from the cell however was separated form the wovles and quickly located. Paladin Rife destroyed Kaliks-4 to prevent the Wolves from recovering it.
Pirsis could not leave empty handed, Skolas’s punishment would be severe and so she engaged Paladin Rife in a close quarters battle, knowing her strength and limbs would overpower her. Paladin Rife had little defence in the close proximity and Pirsis pried Rife’s own blade from her grasp, thrusting it through her chest. Satisfied with the outcome, despite not freeing Drevis, Pirsis withdraw from the ship.
Commander Hallam Fen, Imogen Rife’s protégé, took control and fearing the worst sought to end the battle before the Fallen could regroup and form another assault. He established a line of communication with the rest of the Reef. Working with the Techeuns and the Crows, they created an enormous visual illusion of the Harbingers, making it seem as if the Queen had finally decided to cut her losses and destroy the asteroid, willing to kill her own people in order to defeat Pirsis and prevent Drevis’s escape. It worked—the false Harbingers scared the Wolf fleet that they broke ranks. Commander Fen, was quickly joined by Paladin Leona Bryl and Paladin Kamala Rior and swooped upon the scattered Fallen forces. Pirsis was overpowered and captured and the rest of the Wolves off driven off. Pirsis, was given the title Pallas-Bane for the lengthy siege and destruction he brought upon the asteroid.
Commander Fen, successfully delivered Drevis and Pirsis to the prison of elders. As a reward for his service, the Queen bequeathed him Rife’s place among the Seven Paladins.
