Malahayati, the Warmind?!

Character Lore

Malahayati (Warmind?)

Let’s get to it. How can Clovis Bray help the Exodus project? We’ve found a way to push our matter encryption technology even further. Habitats, equipment, repairs of all kinds—all of these things can be made from one material. SIVA doesn’t expire, degrade, or forget. It can remain dormant even on long voyages. Nearly any problem a deep-space colonist could have, SIVA can fix.

Welcome back guardians. Today we are talking about Malahayati, a suspected Warmind. The item descriptions of the new raid gear documents a conversation between General Chen Lanshu and Doctor Willa Bray from the Clovis Bray facility. They are discussing the use of SIVA for colonisation, specifically, the Exodus Project. Malahayati appears to be a Warmind assigned to protecting General Chen.

Last Twitch stream on Sunday night we are actually discovered a portion of this story, however it was not until I saw a reddit post later that night that the theory really came together. The original Reddit post was by “Jesse_Khaos” who documented the conversation between willa bray and General Chen and one of the top voted comments was by “KFC_just”, who introduced the warmind theory. The link is in the description if you would like to read the post.

Also in the description are a list of people that helped me complete the Thorn bounty whilst I was also on stream, please show them some love as this allowed me to capture all the in-game dialogue associated with the new Thorn bounty, mostly quotes by Dredgen Vale. Links to my twitch and my twitter are below, and I hope you enjoy this latest Destiny Lore episode.

Let’s start with the conversation between General Chen Lanshu and Doctor Willa Bray. For those that have not seen my previous lore videos, Doctor Willa Bray developed the SIVA prototypes with Dr Sharizi, which is detailed on the Owl Sector website and would later develop the SIVA replication chamber with Dr Zhang, which is detailed in the Dormant SIVA: Clovis Bray grimoire cards. General Chen Lanshu, is a new character that we have not previously seen in the lore and she makes her first named appearance in the Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3 grimoire card.

General Chen Lanshu is in command of the Exodus Project, which appears to be a deep space colonisation project during the Golden Age. I believe the events that take place involving General Chen is immediately before the collapse. In fact, General Chen has even been briefed about the impending darkness by someone who has used the Future War Cult device that allowed them to see into the future.

This is told to us in the Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3 grimoire card which reads,

“Once, when she was younger, sixty or seventy, Chen Lanshu pulled rank to get a look at the Never-Be installation in Taipei. She watched the images in the fresco and she felt… this foreboding, this enormous weight, a dread that refused to attach itself to any specific threat. And she felt it again, last year, when she was briefed on the project in Lhasa, the vision machine…”

Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3

Yes, the vision machine is the Future War Cult device that sent people insane with visions of the future consumed by the darkness!

So… now that you know some information about Willa Bray and General Chen, lets take a look at their conversation, which you can discover if you put all the raid item descriptions together. Item descriptions that end with CL are memories of General Chen Lanshu and item descriptions that end with WB are memories of Willa Bray. It reads as follows:

Let’s get to it. How can Clovis Bray help the Exodus project? ~SIVA.MEM.CL001

We’ve found a way to push our matter encryption technology even further. ~SIVA.MEM.WB002

Habitats, equipment, repairs of all kinds—all of these things can be made from one material. ~SIVA.MEM.WB003

SIVA doesn’t expire, degrade, or forget. It can remain dormant even on long voyages. ~SIVA.MEM.WB004

Nearly any problem a deep-space colonist could have, SIVA can fix. ~SIVA.MEM.WB005

And how long do the effects of SIVA last? ~SIVA.MEM.CL006

Well, SIVA requires no external power source, so…forever. ~SIVA.MEM.WB007

Just give it a directive, and it won’t stop until it gets a new directive. ~SIVA.MEM.WB008

This sounds like it could be invaluable to Exodus colonists. But Malahayati has some concerns. ~SIVA.MEM.CL009

General, poorly worded or malicious code is the fault of the programmer, not SIVA itself. ~SIVA.MEM.WB010

Doctor Bray, I’m sure you’ve realized SIVA’s applications extend beyond colonization. ~SIVA.MEM.CL011

I’m not sure what you mean, General. Is this still about the Exodus program? ~SIVA.MEM.WB012

The Exodus program would be interested in exploring SIVA’s defensive applications. ~SIVA.MEM.CL013

General, my team did not intend for SIVA to have military applications. ~SIVA.MEM.WB014

Willa, some of history’s greatest inventions began as unintended side effects. ~SIVA.MEM.CL015

I always thought that Willa Bray should not be trusted, however you likely go the impression from this dialogue, that it was General Chen that wanted to militarize SIVA, even though SIVA was primarily meant for colonization. Building, construction, strengthening humans so that we could explore the Universe.

You likely also noticed the mention of Malahayati. On stream, we are actually thought that Malahayati, may have been the very first exo because in the Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3 card Chen says this to Malahayati,

“Isn’t that what we do, Mala?” she says. “Why we still have soldiers? Why we made you? Expectation.”

Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3

Why we made you?!? The reason why we said the first exo, was because she did not have a memory wipe. However, I now believe reddit had a much better interpretation and that is Malahayati is a Warmind.

The evidence for this is, in the Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3 card, Malahayati is referred to as a “machine” and “submind” and it is implied that she responds and communicates directly to Rasputin. The card reads,

“General,” Malahayati sends. “You’re making Rasputin nervous.” “Am I?” Lanshu banks, grinning, spiraling around the fuel tank. The machine hates risk. Risk to the General, sure, but also risk to Rasputin’s ships. “Is that the word he used, exactly?” “He can be very charming,” the submind assures her. Malahayati works with Chen Lanshu, and she is certainly charming, but this is Rasputin’s territory, Rasputin the tacit king, the brooding wary first-among-equals.”

Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3

You would have noticed, that there seems to be a hierarchy amongst the warminds, I do agree with the original reddit post, Malahayati is a warmind, but she is subordinate to Rasputin, the

“first-among equals”.

Despite Malahayati’s concerns with SIVA, I believe SIVA was loaded into her systems as she was sent into deep space to colonise, in fact she was 9 billion miles away from earth. I once again agree with Reddit and that the Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 4 card documents Malahayati’s colonisation efforts however, SIVA appears to take control of her. It reads,

“I can feel the mites buzzing, pushing against my sub-mind. They try to steal fragments of memory, but I do not let them. They have no will, but they want to BE. I exert electronic will: pushing, shaping. Forcing stasis on perpetual motion. They are quiet then, but I can still sense them. Where once my cargo holds were full of tools, and weapons, and material, now they hold barely-contained possibility. New worlds will be built from these tiny mites. Weapons and cities and ships created by thought and science. I fear my will is not strong enough to shape these worlds. Only the Tyrant can do that, but he will not be a part of my journey. Even his reach has limits, and we will be nine billion miles away.  I whisper my concerns to the Tyrant in tiny magnetic bursts. He does not listen. The Tyrant says take the SIVA, and so I take the SIVA. The Tyrant says go to the stars, and so I go to the stars.”

Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 4

The Tyrant, is actually Rasputin, which is confirmed in the Ghost Fragment Old Russia 3 card. So in this case, Rasputin, tells Malahayati to accept SIVA, the Tyrant says take the SIVA, and so I take the SIVA! This once again adds further fuel to the fire, that Rasputin controls SIVA, or at least controlled SIVA at one stage.

As you can see, all the story lines of Destiny are starting to come together, General Chen and the FWC cult device, Rasputin, SIVA, Clovis Bray!

That concludes this latest Destiny Lore episode, if you would like to support the channel, leave the word, “Tyrant”, Tyrant represents Rasputin “Rasputin the tacit king, the brooding wary first-among-equals.” As usual it has been a pleasure, this is myelin games. Peace.
